Why we need to promote civility

Here are a couple of extracts from the new Life Squared booklet 'How to be civilised', which comes out next week. When we began writing it, we had no idea how relevant some of the lessons would be to the turbulent times we’re living in.  Here are a couple of extracts that feel appropriate today.

Best career advice ever

We came across this quote from a business school professor and, to our minds, it's really the only career advice you need - whatever stage you're at in your career:

Ask yourself, what is the one thing in the world you would do if you knew that you wouldn’t fail? And then just go do that. Do what you want to do, do what you’re passionate about, don’t worry so much about the risk.

What do you think?

At the start of this year, we launched our new website - we think it is simpler and easier to use, but we didn't revamp it for our own use - it's for you!

So, we'd really love to hear what you think about the new site, about Life Squared in general and any suggestions you may have.  Please do get in touch via info [at] lifesquared.org.uk - we'd genuinely like to hear what you think!  Many thanks - the Life Squared team.

Advice for life

Some sage advice for life from Hungarian dissident George Konrad, via Christopher Hitchens' indispensable 'Letters to a Young Contrarian':

"Have a lived life instead of a career. Put yourself in the safekeeping of good taste. Lived freedom will compensate you for a few losses....If you don't like the style of others, cultivate your own. Get to know the tricks of reproduction, be a self-publisher even in conversation, and then the joy of working can fill your days."

We've had a facelift!

We're proud to introduce our new, improved website!

We know lots of people love our content and publications so we haven't changed these, but we wanted to make it easier to see all the content we have available on the website and access the content you need.  We hope the latest revamp has achieved this - and made the website more attractive too!

Please have a look around and let us know what you think - we'd love to hear from you - info@lifesquared.org.uk.

New - The Life Map

We're pleased to announce the launch of our new tool - The Life Map.

Have you ever wished you could get some perspective on your life? To see the story of your life so far from a different angle – and get some insights to help you improve your life in the future? Or perhaps you have difficulty remembering certain events, people or memories from the past, and you’d love to fill in the gaps?

Bad Ads

We all know that advertising is largely an annoyance in society, right? Encouraging us to want and buy stuff we don’t really need, fuelling overconsumption, manipulating us, making us feel permanently dissatisfied….

So, with this in mind we thought we’d present some of the worst adverts we’ve seen – not necessarily badly made (although some are), but breathtaking in their stupidity, hypocrisy or their obvious attempts to manipulate the public.  Here they are…

Publications list

Now that we've made our resources available to everyone, this seems like a good time to provide a list of the publications we've produced to date!

Check out the list here - just click each link to visit the page!

Important news - read anything you like!

We've got some important - and good - news.  The Life Squared website is now easier than ever to use.  Our content has always been free but up to now we've kept some of it available to registered users only.  But we've now removed the 'registration wall' so that everyone can download everything on the site - even if you aren't signed in.

New booklet - 'How to achieve less'

We're delighted to launch our new booklet this week - called 'How to achieve less'. Click here to download it. We're calling it 'the antidote to self help books'.
